Luminous Garden

This work is not about extraterrestrial creatures that have secretly crept into our gardens to lead a parallel existence. Our planet remains full of mysteries, continuously surprising and enthralling us by revealing "new" morphologies every now and again that originate from the animate world. Nevertheless, the subjects of Paul den Hollander have not emerged from a submarine environment or from science fiction on a microscopic scale. Rare, both fragile and robust, these organisms from the plant world appear to float in a space that consists of nothing but a pallid and soft light. Here, photography renders the invisible electromagnetic field visible through scientific knowledge and artistic creativity.

The cook who wanders down to his vegetable patch in search of the ingredient required to perfect his gastronomic dish is often hailed an artist, a magician or even an alchemist because he has the power to change the form and structure of the elements to achieve an end result that is full of subtlety. This reflection also encapsulates the series by Paul den Hollander. His vision reminds the observer that beyond human optics, there is an entire hidden and fantastic universe waiting to be discovered.
